“To
be, or not to be: that is the question.”
—William Shakespeare, 1601
Respond to the quote above. What do you think it means? Do you agree or disagree and why? Who was William Shakespeare- in what work does this quote appear? What is the context for the character to say this quote?
Also, connect with the quote (text to self, text to text, or text to world)- how does the sentiment of the quote still resonate today?
I’ve never really understood what this quote meant, but I believe it could mean that everyone has a choice. The real question is if you want to “be” or “not to be.” If it does mean this, then I do agree with this quote. We all of choices in life of what we want to be whether it’s pursuing a career or becoming a whole new person. It all comes down to that one question that we have to ask ourselves everyday.
ReplyDeleteWilliam Shakespeare was a very famous English poet, playwright, and actor. This quote comes from an opening scene in his famous play called Hamlet. In this play, the actor contemplates death and suicide and begins to acknowledge each. This quote can resonate today because in life we are always contemplating things about life and we should always acknowledge both sides of our decision.

I like how you did not even understand the quote but still had an idea and wrote it out. I also like your thinking about the quote, and you made it easier to understand. Well done.
DeleteI agree with you because that's very similar to how I interpreted the quote. Although you didn't understand that well, you gave a very impressive answer. You made me rethink my response and compare yours to mine. I think that your response made it easier for others to understand and try to grasp the meaning of the quote. Good job!
DeleteYou did a good job explaining how you understood the quote and how you think it could be even though you didn't fully understand it.
DeleteI agree with your response because it's true that an individual should have the choice whether they want to do it or not.
DeleteIt was great that you gave it a try and tried to think through this quote even though it was a struggle for you to understand.
DeleteI like how you explained your thinking and how you used a really good example.
DeleteI agree with you 100%. I understand what you mean by "we all have to ask ourselves" because it all comes down to that basic question.
DeleteI really liked how you talked about looking at both sides of making a decision.

DeleteI like the way you talk about this quote
DeleteI agree with the thought that we ask ourselves the question everyday.
DeleteWe all have choices in life. But there is this question that we ask ourselves everyday, the question is to be or not to be. I agree with this quote because when someone has a choice between two thing then you need to ask your self which one to choose and which one not to choose. We all have the choice to be good or a bad person but what really doesn't make sense is when people say "well, I didn't choose to be a bad person" , I just do not get how people have no choice between being a good or a bad person. I mean yes stuff happen but you will have the chance to choose what is right and wrong. William Shakespeare was a very famous English poet, playwright, and actor.

I don't completely agre with your answer because the reason why people are assumed to be bad is because they think differently than others. For example, if I take an apple and eat it because it was on the counter and you come up to me later, upset because I ate your apple, you'd think I was the bad person. But in my case I'd be upset because there was nothing stating that it was yours. It depends on the way people think. I think that's what influences our choices the most.

I think it doesn't necessarily make someone a bad person because they think differently than you, but I see how you understood the quote.
DeleteIt is correct that we will have choices in life, but we must also be careful of the decisions we make. I enjoyed reading your post it clearly explains the way you think.

ReplyDeleteI feel that this is trying to say that we all have a choice in life and that we should choose wisely. Shakespeare shows in the story that if we don't choose wisely, we could ruin or end everything. Just like how Prince Hamlet ended his family. It's sad how he went crazy though. And the fact that he was so crazy that he tries to kill his own father is scary.
ReplyDeleteI think that it still resonates today because we make choices everyday and asks ourselves a modernized form of this question and don't even realize it. We ask ourselves, "What do I choose?" We don't think it exactly, it's like a common skill that we have. We know how to choose things and make choices. Shakespeare just wants us to learn from this story and try to make the right choice.
I like how you talked about Shakespeare I think it made your journal better to understand.
DeleteI agree with you that we should choose wisely to keep going on the right way in our life.
DeleteI agree with you because people can chose wisely and keep going the right way if they believe in something.
DeleteI agree. We do have a choice in life. I think it sucks that people can't always be what they want because of certain situations.

ReplyDeleteThe Question
“To be, or not to be: that is the question.”
I feel that it's trying to state that we all have choices in life. We have a choice to do or not do something. It's in our everyday lives. We always make this choice and our ask ouselves this question. We don't even realize it because it's part of our everyday life.
I agree with this quote because I can see this happening now. In modern day life. We always ask ourselves this same question. What do we do now? That's the real question. It's also the most common question that can be asked. It's similar to choosing what to wear. We always choose what we wear, but don't realize that in our minds that we ask ourselves this same question.
William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright. He was also an actor. He lived back in the English Renaissance age. His most famous works are
, "Romeo and Juilet", "King Lear", "Othello", "Macbeth", and, the one this quote is in, "Hamlet". By what I know, Hamlet is a story about a prince who goes mad and tries to kill his own father to avenge a ghost. People try to kill him, but his mother ends up accidentally drinking the poisoned beverage that was meant for him and dies. Hamlet blames his father for this. He kills his father with a poisonous blade and kills him and also dies himself. A man named Fortinbras comes and sees the royal family dead and decides to make himself the new king.
This quote is from a nunnery scene in the book and is when Hamlet is contemplating about suicide. By this time, he's absolutely lost it. I feel like that we can all relate to this quote because I'm pretty sure at least six of us have contemplated our own existence. Whether it be because of bullying or whatnot. We choose whether to live or die. Which is the case in this scene.
I feel like it still resonates in life today because, like I said before, it's part of our lives. We don't even think about it. We ask ourselves a similar question to this everyday. It's just that we never notice. It's like choosing clothes. Which one do we choose? We don't actually think that in our brains usually, but we ask our brains this question and make decisions based on how we feel. I feel that Shakespeare wanted us to know this quote and that he also wants us to know how to choose carefully because one wrong choice can end everything. Just like how Hamlet ended the royal family.
I think you did a good job going into depth about your thinking and I like how you answered to the quote.
DeleteYou did amazing job answering the questions with full details. I enjoyed reading your post and it gave me better understanding of the quote. Great job.
DeleteI agree with everything you said, and i like how there was a lot of details!
DeleteI like how you explained the quote with such clear specific details! Great job!
DeleteI agree with your statement, when you stated that this quote is still asked today because it is.
DeleteYou went very well in depth and used very strong wording.
DeleteI like how in depth you went with this.
DeleteI think this quote is trying to say that you always have the choice in life to decide what you want to be or do. For example, if you want to go out and become a musician or dancer or professional athlete then you have the choice to do that. I agree with this quote because you should always feel like you have control of your life and that you can make the decision for yourself. When he says “that is the question”, I think he is talking about how you ponder about the way you want things to turn out and why you should a decision on a topic. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor and was considered the greatest writer in English language. The quote is derived from one of his famous plays Hamlet and it was in the opening scene. The actor in Hamet is deciding between death and suicide and starts to understand them both. I think a lot of times today, many people decide and think between two things. For example, a student who has a lot of homework decides whether or not they want to stay up late and finish the homework or between forgetting the homework and just getting enough sleep. They understand the consequences of both and decide which one is the smarter choice.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post. I also think that this quote gives an individual the chance to make their own choices. So, its their choice to have things go they way they want it.
DeleteI agree with you juliette because people should have their choice to do whatever they want to do and nobody should stop them.
DeleteI agree with Steven for the same reason.
DeleteI agree with you because any choice a person would make is their decision.
DeleteI agree with you because people can chose what they want to do because it is their decision and nobody can stop them.
DeleteI gree with how you say that you always have choices in life
DeleteI like how you gave examples. I think it gives the person reading the quote and your journal a better understanding.
ReplyDeleteI used to read this quote almost everywhere, and I really didn’t know what they mean. But, I always thought that it means if you want something, then it’s your choice to let it be. You are given a chance to either let it be or to not let it be. So, to me this means it’s a person’s choice and the question is whether or not you want something to happen or not. William Shakespeare is the most famous author in our entire history. He is an English poet, playwright, and actor. He is also the world's pre-eminent dramatist. This quote appear in Shakespeare's play Hamlet. He used this quote when he was explaining the pain of life as “seas of troubles” and when he was unsure what death may bring. This quote still resonate today in our world because we might think that we have the choice to let things be or not. But, also we might say that we got tired of something so we will just let it be and see the results. So let it be no matter what will happen. But, after all it all depends on the person and the decisions they make.
ReplyDeleteI agree because it's individual's choice whether they want it to be or not.
DeleteI agree with you because people make there own choice in there life.
DeleteI agree with you because its our life and we have the right to make our own choices.
DeleteI liked your opinion about this quote, which to me everything you ask is pretty much true. Which it does depend on how the person retrieves this quote. And if you want to be something in life then you are the one to choice if you want to put all your effort into it or don't even try at all. So in all I think your response was very similar to what I was thinking as well.
DeleteI like how you wrote how we a choice; it's our life. I agree and i'm pretty sure Miley Cyrus would too: D
DeleteI like how you said we are given a chance, to just go with it or do something about it. I agree when you stated that some people just let things be and they just go with whatever the outcome is.

ReplyDeleteI think this quote is saying that people always have the choice to do whatever they want to do. For example, if a student want to major in something he/she like to be in this major, but their parents wants them to major in something completely different from their major. Then they shouldn’t listen to them because it’s their life and they have the choice to be whatever they want to be. I agree because every individual should make their own decision because if they don’t in the future they won’t be responsible and they will keep listening to others who make the choice for them. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He doesn't simply ask whether life or death is preferable, it's hard to clearly distinguish the two being comes to look a lot like not being. To be, in Hamlet's eyes, is a passive state, to suffer outrageous fortune's blows, while not being is the action of opposing those blows. Living is, in effect, a kind of slow death, a submission to fortune's power. On the other hand, death is initiated by a life of action. This quote remind me how in Iraq people are suffering and several are having slow death, etc..

I agree with you because what you are saying is totally true that we all can make our own choices.

You should not be forced to give what you want to do to do something someone else wants you to do.

DeleteI think the quote means that you have a choice. To do right or to do wrong. It all really depends on you. I agree with this this quote because i feel like yeah you do have a choice. Its rather you want to do good or you don’t want to. William Shakespeare was a poet, playwright, and an actor. This quote by Shakespeare was in the play Hamlet. ReplyDeleteWilliam Shakespeare is an english poet , playwright , and considered the greatest writer in the english language. His works include Romeo and Juliet , Hamlet and many more. William Shakespeare legacy lives on worldwide because his acts are the most famous and also are performed worldwide in every language.
I think Shakespeare is trying to say that pain , unfairness, so im thinking this quote has to do with something negative. For example say if you want to be an athlete , you will be one or you won't , you never know . You will never know because life is a mystery because I know Shakespeare always writes about the mysteries. You can either be somebody or something but you can’t be both , but you will never know because nobody can predict the future. That what I think what the quote means but I’m not sure because I wasn’t around 1601 so it is hard to say what William Shakespeare means.
I like how you gave a respond that was unquie to me, but reading more of it I understand what you got out of this quote. And I agree because when you want to become something you would either be it or not. But if you put effort into it then maybe you will be it. It just depends on how hard you actually try in it, which what I think. But in all I like how you responded to this quote.
DeleteWe all have our own choices. I agree with this quote because when something happens you ask yourself to be or not be. For example, when things go bad in your life you chose to handle them or not handle them i think that is similar because you are choosing to be or not to be. You are choosing to be there and solve them or to leave your problems and walk away. This quote by Shakespeare was in the play Hamlet. I think everyone can relate to this quote even myself because we all chose to do things wright or not.

DeleteI agree with this quote because people can chose weather they want to be part of something or not to be. For example, you can chose to lie to say the truth. When you lie you are choosing not be part of something and you just want to get finished from it and you are lying to yourself too. When you say the truth you are choosing to be part of that situation and you want to work it out instead of ending it as quickly as you can so that nobody knows that you are lying. This quote by Shakespeare was in the play Hamlet. I think everyone can relate to this quote even myself because we all chose to do things wright or not.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think that this quote is basically saying we all simply have a choice in the way we live life. Today I am where I am because of the choices that I made yesterday. The choice is always ours at the end of the day. Before making any decisions people often ask “to be or not to be,” I do that too, when I have a choice to make I think about it and ask myself should I do that or not? We sit there and think about the negative and the positive side of the situation and still end up being confused and still wonder about what we should do. I totally agree with this quote because as I mentioned, everyone has a choice, and the decisions that we make today might affect us tomorrow and that is why we must choose wisely. William Shakespeare was a very famous English poet, playwright, and actor. This was quoted from his famous play known as “Hamlet.” This quote resonates today because we are all put in situations where we have two choices, and it’s hard to choose and fear if it’s the right decision.
ReplyDeleteI agree. We have a choice in life with what we do with ourselves and what we do in life just in general. Not everyone asks themselves that.
DeleteI enjoyed reading your response and I completely agree. It's up to us to make choices that are best for us and can affect us positively in the future.
Delete“To be, or not to be: that is the question.” written by William Shakespeare in 1601
ReplyDeletemay be based on us and our decisions in life. Many of us want to be successful and accomplish all good in life but do little to nothing to obtain it. Then, their are others who do everything in their hands to be who the want to be, because at the end of the day it is OUR choice to be who we want to be, and how we want to be known for. Many people “are” what they let people see, for example i know many smart people but they dress like they’re thugs, and act like they know the streets or like they own the streets but why? Maybe because they were hurt so much and they are stuck thinking the meaning of the quote “To be or not to be: that is the question”. No matter what you do, its either a step foward to who you want to be or a step backwards into what you want people to believe you are, in which you will eventually fall in and conquer little to nothing. Shakespear didn’t just state this quot, just because he said it because he, himself asked himself and he became who he wanted to be. Now his question is asked to us, and only we can decide who we want to be. Our actions make us who we are.
I agree with your last sentence. Your response is written really well.
Delete"To be, or not to be: thats is the question." I think this quote means that if you want to be something or don't it would be like that. Either that you will be that or not. SImple. If this is what the quote does mean then I do agree. If you truly want to be something in life then you either actually become it because of your true commitment to it or you don't. William Shakespeare is a poetic writer. I think this is a text to self because its to yourself and about what you do with your life.
ReplyDeleteGabrielle Torres per. 6
I agree with your response because if they really want to become something then you should stay to your hard commitment and really make it happen. Or just don't give any effort at all, then you wouldn't really have anything at all. And I think your opinion about this quote as well.
DeleteI agree with going and committing to what you want to become in life . You did a good job at explaining it but i know you have more to say lol .
Delete
ReplyDeleteWith this quote, which most people know about it or heard of it, but some not know what its meaning even is. What I think this quote means that how people have choices to be something in life and you could be or not at all. And that is a question that you would have to answer. Whether it to become something you really wanted to be when growing up, or just not make that happen at all. I do agree with this quote because in life we all make decisions that would make or break our future. And wanting to be something would take a lot of work or don’t try at all. Which comes to the question if you want to become that or not. Sometimes when making this choice would really have to be thought through. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor and was considered the greatest writer in English language. The quote is derived from one of his famous plays Hamlet and it was in the opening scene. The actor in Hamet is deciding between death and suicide and starts to understand them both. So the actor had to choice if he wanted death or to bring death to him. And when looking at this very powerful example, I think that when looking at the decisions that people have to make they really have to think it through, before they take measures into it. And looking at my life I had to react in a way that it wouldn’t really affect my future as much. For example, the type of people that I would become friends with. And with this relating to the quote, that how I would look when having those types of friends. Which they would either help me become a better person or become a stray from the important details in life. So I have the decision to be like them or just get new friends. Will they affect me in a good way or be influence in a way that will hurt me in the long run. This quote could still be used today by,how in life we want to be perfect but not all the time it is to be like that. I mean we are all human so we all make mistakes some point in our life. So the question is being asked all the time, “to be” or “not to be”. You could chose the path to be, making your own thoughtful choices in that trail that would help you in the future. Or the path not to be, which could pretty much ruin your life and not thinking so much as the question is asking.

DeleteYou expressed what you thought very clearly and I liked when you said that people have to think something through clearly before they take any actions.
DeleteNice expression of what you think it means.
DeleteI like how you went into so much detail with what you feel it meant and where the quote originated from.
DeleteI agree with this quote because at one point in your life you are going to have to decide what to be or what not to be for the rest of your life. Those should be good and bad choices. For example if you want to be successful you should choose to be educated and to not be a dummy and just waste your life.
ReplyDeleteI think that the quote means that you have two choices. You can either accomplish something or not. You always have the choice to do something and not to, sometimes it can be a good thing and other times it affects you in a bad way. I agree because everyone has two choices you can either become someone by getting things done or you just choose not to become anyone and you don’t get noticed by a lot of people. William Shakespeare was a famous playwright but little is known about his personal life. His plays are very famous and are performed by many. The quote appears in his play, Hamlet. A despondent is contemplating death and suicide and thinks about how unfair life is but how death might be worse. The quote resonates today because we all have choices and we decide what to do with our lives. -Bryan Gavilanes Per. 5

ReplyDelete“To be or to not be: that is the question.” This familiar and famous quote takes you back in the time when William shakespeare was out and about, at least I think so.What I think this quote means that “should I live or shall I not?” In life people will encounter really hard, depressing, and anxious times. That causes people not want to live and commit suicide. And make you question yourself should I be here? Do I really want this? And some people answer NO to each question and end it all at once with no thought. Honestly most of the times a lot of people have this thought most of the time and actually do as they think. Only because some people in this world are selfish, heartless, mercenary, viperous people in this world that make the heartfull and innocent people think twice on why they live. Called the national English poet William Shakespeare is largely considered the greatest dramatist of all time. This quote took place when he committed suicide in Hamlet. As for the message of this quote. Its seen every where in innocent child’s eyes, exhausted employers, ill hospital patients, and the people who wish they could bleed out all their pain, aloofness, and tire but don’t know who to go to but a bottle of pills, a gun, a knife, a razor and much more.

DeleteI think this quote means that it’s up to you what you want to be in life and that’s your biggest decision of your life . Many elders , family members , friends , coaches , and teachers throw so many ideas and suggestions at you as your growing up and you have to decide whether “ to be , or not to be “ . It’s scary to think that you won’t get your life together in time , but all you have to do is decide early what you want and as you grow up and have the chance to finally reach what you’ve wanted to do then buckle down and decide if it’s what you really want . This quote can relate in work , school , or even in sports . For example , when I’m on the court before a game every time i have to decide whether I’m going to leave it all on the floor and be a great player or not . Pressure is another big key to figuring things out , the best way to handle pressure is to just do you and go with the flow . I worry all the time whether I’m going to be successful , and that’s one of my biggest fears , but i have to take chances and figure out just what i want. As you can tell , I agree with his words and i feel as if this quote will forever resonate because everyone struggles with finding who they are and who they want to become .

ReplyDeleteI think this quote means we should be asking ourselves: are? we or are we not. For example,” to be” are we space takers? or “not to be” are we not space takers ? To me, at least, to be kind of means you’re more involved, which is what people want the majority of the time. I think that this is a life question we all ask ourselves whether it is on the soccer field, in the classroom, or just visiting a day dream.
William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet, and an actor. He was born in 1564, but his actual birthdate is unknown. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and together they had three children.
His plays have been translated in every major language. His early plays were mostly comedies and histories. Then, wrote tragedies such as Hamlet and Othello. His plays still live on today and are just as popular.
I agree with your respond I like how you wrote examples like soccer.
DeleteI agree with you and I like how your example are worded out .
DeleteI agree with this and i liked how you used examples
DeleteI don't understand this quote but I think its means should you try or not, should you live or not. He was a poet maybe he asked himself should I write or not? I agree with this quote because I think you should ask yourself "to be or not".
ReplyDeleteWilliam Shakespeare was an English playwright, actor, and poet. He was born in 1564 and died in 1616. He married Anne Hathaway at the age of 18 and had three children. He wrote tragedies like, Hamlet, Kinglear, Othello and Macbeth. His plays were translated to major living languages. This quote still resonates with today because people still ask their selves to do things or not.

ReplyDeleteThis quote is very contradicting and could mean lots of different things. Personally, I feel as though this is a question we ask ourselves on a daily basis. It’s basically saying that we have a choice. Either “to be” or “not to be.” You can do whatever you want in life, it’s up to you. If you want to make a bad decision or take the wrong path, that’s all on you. However, you could chose to do great things that make you happy and things you’ll be proud of in the future. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright and actor. This quote appeared in the play Hamlet. The sentiment of this quote still resonates today because everybody has the right to make their own choices and decide how they want to live their lives.
I agree with you and I like how you said "Contradicting" instead of a simple word.
DeleteI like this response. We do ask ourselves these questions. Am I gonna wear this or not? Am I gonna eat this or not? I definitely agree with you
DeleteI think the quote is trying to say that you have a choice. You can be this or you can be something else. I agree with this quote because people do have a choice and you have to think if It’s gonna lead you down the wrong path or lead to the right path. William Shakes wrote English poems and was a actor. He is well know as the Arthur who wrote Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. He qualifies to say that quote because he was lead down the right path and he had a successful career. There was this book where this family moved into these apartments and they didn’t have anything. Their dad left them with nothing. He really wanted to join this plague soccer team but he didn’t have enough money to buy cleats and long socks. The couch learned that he lied about having enough money to buy the cleats and long socks, so he was about to get kick off the team. One day he rode the school bu home and a girl said ‘why don’t you just make people pay 50 cents for you to draw a design on their shoe instead of doing it for free.’ He made people pay and he finally had enough money to get the cleats and socks from the thrift shop. Then when he got back to soccer practice he was accused of stealing someones phone and putting it in his backpack. Since he chose the path of lying the first time the coach didn’t trust him. The kid who accused him spoke up and told the truth that he did it. Lying is the wrong path to take because it could lead you to some serious problems in life. “To be or not to be’ Is saying that you have a choice to choose what path you are willing to take and how the outcome is going to be. This quote is used a lot today , for example in the movie freedom writers. It is used in different ways than how it is said.

I personally liked how you said we have to think about our paths before we choose one of the choices that's given to us. I also like how you gave an example on how choosing the wrong choice would lead to the wrong path.
DeleteI liked the sentence where you said that before taking a path we have to think if it'll be good or bad. Your example was really interesting because it says that the kid chose to lie the first time so that made him seem untrustworthy any time after.
DeleteI like how you gave so much information about the author and gave examples of the other things he has done.
DeleteI think this quote is saying that nothing is certain, and that anything could happen. The question that nobody knows the answer to is, what will happen, what is to be, and not to be. You never truly know the outcome of anything, you just have to wait for the answer that only time will tell. William Shakespeare is one of the most famous poet, playwright, and actor, this line is from one of his most famous plays Hamlet, the line is to show Hamlet’s hesitation to avenge his father’s murder on his uncle, stepfather, and his new king Claudius.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quote because you never know what’s going to happen, no one does. Like when you were a kid and you see this really cool toy that you wanted, and asked your mom to buy it for you. You don’t know whether or not she is going to yes, and if she does you don’t know what is going to happen to the toy, maybe one day it will break, maybe you’ll keep it forever, but you don’t know.
I disagree with your thought. I do not believe that this quote means that its about timing. I believe its about questioning. I agree with the part that the outcome can be different that what you expect.
DeleteI think what this quote is saying is that we have two options, to be something or to not be something. I agree with this quote because in life, we always have simple, but yet complicated questions that we choose from… Should I be this or not be this? Should I be that or not be that? Should I do it or not do it? Simple as it is, we tend to be indecisive, wanting the best, which makes it more difficult for us to answer a yes or no question. I do believe that it’s up to us to choose and decide because we have that choice. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. This quote came from his play known as “Hamlet.” This was said because Hamlet was debating whether to live or not to live, life is full of troubles, but then he has no idea what death can bring. I believe this resonates today because at the end of the day, its really up to us to be or not to be.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this because in life we have to make choices
DeleteI agree with you because life is made up of choices
DeleteI think this quote means life has two outcomes either you be or not. I do agree with this quote because for example if i wanted to become a doctor either i’am or im not there is no such thing as a half doctor.William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, in Stratford-on-Avon. The son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, he was probably educated at the King Edward IV Grammar School in Stratford, where he learned Latin and a little Greek and read the Roman dramatists. At eighteen, he married Anne Hathaway.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your thoughts on this quote. I like the example you used from something personal.
DeleteI agree with you on this quote. I liked how you used the example of being a doctor. You can't half step it when you make that final decision to be a doctor because you were given a decision and now you have to fully commit to it. Good job on this quote.
DeleteWhat I think this famous quote means is you have two choices, to live a life with success or to live a normal life that leads you no where. I agree with that because everyone chooses their path of their life. You decide if you want to be successful or not. William Shakespeare is a famous writer who is known for his many plays and sonnets. In this scene, when the character, Hamlet, says this, he is decided if he should commit suicide after the death of his father. I don’t think he should do so. Life will go on and he shouldn’t give up immediately. Today, many people suffer from suicidal thoughts and they should try to find a solution before automatically choosing suicide. Stephanie Novela
ReplyDeleteI agree that everyone is given the choice of succeeding and a choice of getting no where. I also agree with the suicide part,no one should give up right away.
DeleteI agree that it means success
DeleteI agree that we all have the choice on how to live our life, and that we shouldn't give up immediately.
DeleteI like how you did your research and included examples from problems of everyday life.
DeleteI think this quote means that you can either try to live the way you want to or to not try at all. I agree because everyone chooses how they want to live, or at least they should be able to.
ReplyDeleteWillian Shakespeare was an english poet, actor, and playwright. This quote appears in the play Hamlet.
This quote still resonates today because people ask themselves f they should or if they shouldn't everyday.
I agree with how you were thinking. I agree with how you stated you can live life your way. You can live life how you want to, and the way you want to . It is not just one way, its more than one way.
Delete“To be, or not to be: that is the question.”

William Shakespeare was poet is saying either to live a life with success or to live a normal life that leads you no where. I agree with him because in life you always have two choices in life. I agree with this because this is used in life now. You always have to choose between two things in life. Good or bad? Even more things Everything religion, Etc.
I disagree with what your thinking. There is not two choices in life. It is like saying there is only two ways to solve a math problem, when there can be more than 2 ways. Another one can be like solving a real life situation. There is never only one or two way to something. There is more than one or two ways to something.
DeleteI think the quote is saying that everyone has choices in life. I agree with this quote, it’s either to be or not to be. You make choices all the time. For example, your homework you either choose to do or not. Its your choice if you want to make good decisions or bad decisions. As you get older you start to make better choices. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and an actor. Widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. You either choose to be successful or you choose to be a failure.

I like how you used examples in everyday life.
DeleteI do not understand what this quote actually means, but I feel this quote has to do with your choices for your future. I feel this quote is saying you have decisions in your life and your choice is either TO BE successful or NOT TO BE successful. It is your decision if you want to be successful or not. I feel this quote has to do with your actions and how you want your future to be.
ReplyDeleteShakespeare was born in England. He was an English pot, playwright, and an actor. He was often called the English national poet. I feel this quote has to do with how his life was so successful. He made this quote saying he chose the to be successful way in life. Since he chose that way of life now he is well known and never forgotten
Therefore, this is how I feel about the quote and how I believe it relates to Shakespeare and his success.
I agree with what you think this quote means, and how this has to do with our actions.
DeleteIf you look at when this was said, it was in his play Hamlet. Hamlet was deciding between life and death. But I could see how you would tie this in to Wlliam.

ReplyDeleteI think that the quote its saying what do you prefer to be or not to be. Everyone have the question to be or not to be. I agree with this quote because it’s better to be, because you're well and you get what you need or require. William Shakespeare was a very famous poet, playwright and actor. This comes from an opening scene in his famous play called Hamlet. This quote can be represented today because we make good or bad choices.

I´ve never really understood this quote, but I think it means to be or not, like to do something or not do it. I think we ask ourselves this question everyday we face difficult decisions everywhere. It decides who you are as a person having these thoughts and asking yourself this question everyday helps decide who you are as a person.

Well do you want to be or you do not want to be? For example, if you were asked to do something, you can look at this being to be doing this, or to not be doing this. I believe that this quote means that everything/mostly everything can be looked/based off of this question. And in a way, they mostly can be. Another example would be if you got in trouble and you were told to go outside, you could be outside, but if you did not do something bad, then you could of been inside. William Shakespeare was a very famous and well known author. Mr. Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor. Some people consider him the greatest English language writer. This quote came from a play. He said this because this can be related to mostly any question, and also he said this because it comes up in every persons life. This quote can be connected to my self and the world. I am saying this because in every persons daily life, this shows up no matter what. If you were to be asked a question, most likely you can relate that question to this.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this can be related to any persons life, and I like how you provided different examples to show what this quote means.
DeleteThis was a slightly difficult quote to fully understand, but you explained it very well to make it understandable. I like the examples you gave too.
DeleteI think this quote means that it’s your choice whether you do or don’t do something. I agree with this quote because you decide if you do or don’t do something. You choose how to live your life, and what path you decide to go on. William Shakespeare’s birth date is unknown, but he was baptised on April 26, 1564 and he died on April 23, 1616. Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s pre-eminent dramatist. This quote appears in his play Hamlet, which is one of his best/greatest work. When Prince Hamlet says this in the play, he contemplates death and suicide. He bemoans the pains and unfairness of life but acknowledges the alternative might still be worse. This quote still resonates today because everyday we make choices in our life, whether we choose to do or not to do something.

I think that what the quote is saying is that you have to choose and answer the question of who you want to be. You have to answer this question with everything in life. Whether you're going to do something good or bad or something about your future. I never really got this quote, all I knew was it was from the famous writer William Shakespeare. It is from his famous play called Hamlet and I think he is talking about life or death in that case. -Seth Peraza Per.5
ReplyDeleteI like how you said that you have to question everything. That's interesting.
DeleteThis quote means to me that if you are for something be about it all the way without half stepping or kinda doing it, but just simply do it. It's either your right or wrong, up or down, it's yes or no there's no in between. If your going to start something new then be about it all the way without one day being on and the next being off. I also believe it's almost like being clear and secure about a decision that you make. You can't be indecisive about settling what your going to do or be in life you have to know what you want. I do agree with this quote and the different meanings and examples from this quote.
ReplyDeleteWilliam Shakespeare was born in the United Kingdom April 26,1564 until April 23, 1616. During his time of living he was a English poet, actor, and playwriter during the English Renaissance. His spouse was named Anne Hathaway from 1582-1616. He was the greatest writer in English language and was called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon." He eventually retired to Stratford around 1613 at the age of 49 where he died three years later.
This can reflect on us just simply by being ourselves. We can either be our self or be something that we are not and it just makes more sense to be able to be yourself because that's the best person you can be. You can either be yourself and not have to struggle to be someone that you aren't. This quote also gives you that choice and opportunity to decide whether or not you will be something or not to.
I like the examples you gave of how this quote relates now a days.
DeleteWilliam Shakespeare. A well known poet and playwright. I think that this quote means that no matter what, you have a choice in life. That you'll always have a choice. Whether it be the noble thing to do or the cowardly thing, whether it be the right or wrong thing. You always have a choice. No one can take that choice away from you and you don't always make the right choice but you do make A choice. So, you can choose. To be or not to be. That truly is the question. To be a coward or a hero. To be a nerd or a jock. To play sports or play video games. It's a choice. And it's your choice.
ReplyDeleteI think this quote means that you have choices in life. For example you have the choice to do the right thing or to do the wrong thing .I agree with this quote because that is true you do have choices in life. William Shakespeare was an English Poet, playwright, and actor. He was born on April 26, 1564, and died on April 23, 1616. This quote comes from a scene when a Prince called Hamlet was contemplating about suicide. This quote still resonates today to when people can't make up their mind about something.

I like how you explain the quote.
DeleteBased on my research, I found that this was said by Hamlet. This was in a moment of despair when he was deciding whether or not to take his life, hence the term "To be or not to be". He was basically saying "To live or not to live?" What should he do? He was really in a bad place with all his family affairs that he felt that it was a matter of life and death. That has to be really tough. Here he's giving himself a choice whether or not he wants to continue his life.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has a choice in life. But there are also some things that are out of our control. So I agree and don't agree with this quote.

I like how you included the text of from where the quote is from.
DeleteI agree with Arlette. I like how you included the background of where the quote is from, Olivia.
DeleteI feel that this quote is basically saying, “What if?” This is because William Shakespeare is asking himself whether he should or shouldn't do something. So hes trying to decide what is the best option. I think I can agree with this quote because whenever I want to make a decision, I always think about both options in depth to see what will have the best outcome, which I feel Shakespeare is doing in this quote. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor. This quote came out in his work, Hamlet. The character was contemplating on whether he should or shouldn't do something. An example of this quote that relates with the modern world could be a student thinking about whether he should or shouldn't do his homework. He knows if he does it, he can get a good grade in the class but if he doesn't, it is going to be difficult to catch up in the class.

I agree with you that the quote is saying "what if," because by saying "to be or not to be," he is exploring the possibilities of what will happen if he decides to do one thing or another.
DeleteI think that this quote, “To be, or not to be: that is the question,” means that, when asked a question, the answer should be plain and simple, either yes or no, or to be or not to be. There is no “maybe” or in between. It’s like being pregnant. Either you are, or you aren’t. That is the real question. I disagree with this quote, because sometimes people just don’t have a simple yes or no answer. Sometimes people don’t know the answer yet or they’re just not sure. There could be many reasons why people don’t have a straightforward answer. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor. This quote appears in Hamlet, William Shakespeare’s work The context for the character to say this quote is him contemplating committing suicide. Either he will or he won’t. “To be, or not to be: that is the question.” Connecting this quote to the world, a lot of people and things demand a straightforward answer. Connecting this quote to myself, I feel as though straightforward answers are much simpler to understand. The sentiment of the quote still resonate
