A Tangled Web

“O what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive.”

—Sir Walter Scott, 1808

Respond to the quote above.  What do you think it means?  Who was Sir Walter Scott?
Also, connect with the quote (text to self, text to text, or text to world)- how does the sentiment of the quote still resonate today?  Think of examples that illustrate this quote.

  1. This quote was a little confusing but but I believe it means that when we practice to do something that has a negative outcome, then we get caught up in a bad situation. The “tangled web we weave” refers to that bad situation you may end up in if you first learn to deceive. I agree with this quote by Sir Walter Scott because of own life experiences. For example, during my childhood or any other person’s childhood we become rebellious and not listen to what parents tell us to do which leads to temper tantrums that we end up getting time outs for. The timeout can refer to that tangled web we weave.
Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. His work of poetry shows through the quote using rhyming words such as “weave” and “deceive.” Since Scott was an intellectual person, he probably wrote this quote with a strong purpose from his own life experiences although the wording he chose was playful. This quote can relate to any situation, especially situations where people are just learning about life. If you first learn how to do something bad then that outcome will be bad as well, but we eventually get out of that tangled web and learn from our mistakes.

  2. I think this quote is saying that we create a tangled web for ourselves when we believe something that is not true. We start to believe in something that isn’t true and we make up these scenarios in our head that just makes things worse. It happens a lot with teenagers. For example, if someone tells you something about another person, you’re gonna believe it because you think they’re telling the truth. If they tell you something that was bad, then you’re going to stop liking that person. This sets up problems for you because you get angry over this and you start to hate the person when you see them. We shouldn’t create problems for ourselves.
Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. He was also involved with politics being an advocate, judge and legal administer. I think he said this quote because it was very hard to know the truth when it comes to politics because you never know if a person is telling the truth or is just saying things to get popularity of the people.
I can relate this to my life because a lot of people in high school portray themselves as a “better” person and make up stories and lies just so they can get more people to like them and to get the popularity. I think they are creating a tangled web for themselves because they always have to keep the lie going and making sure it doesn’t get mixed in order for people to believe them.

And how you said that when people make up lies and then they go and believe it. And that is true, like how people want to start things so they just make up lies. But I think that in the end the person who was telling lies would be the one more hurt in the long run. And they decided to make their webs more tangled as the quote stated.

    5. I agree with your response, I liked your thoughts on the quote’s meaning. I understand what you mean when you were saying that we create our own tangled web, by saying something bad about someone. This could very well lead up to that person not liking someone. I would like to add on your statement, that not only was one or two people will be involved. But that one person might go around telling others what they heard and that just involves several others, which creates a more tangled web.

  3. This means when you intend to, deceive such as lie, cheat, etc, you entangle yourself in complicated situations- trying to cover your situation, when your deception is exposed. Basically, that lies beget more lies, and that masking lies with more lies creates an ever more complex arrangement of falsehoods.
Sir Walter Scott, was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Scott was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime. For example, a friend of mine once lied to me I was trying to know the truth; however, she came up with another lie to hide the truth because she didn't want to embarrass herself by proving that she lied to me again.
Which in today’s generation people keep lying to keep the truth hidden.

  5. I think this quote means of how people make lies, which the tangled web would represent of how people would get caught up in their lives and end up in a bad situation. So that gives us the chance to first deceive someone and get out of that situation. As humans we get the first chance to get out of something that could harm us in the long run. And how we could keep someones trust and don't want to lose that, what we do is trick them in showing how that how we would never tell a lie to them. But later on in the future they will find out that is was a lie and there goes their trust with them out the window. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. He was also involved with politics, judge and legal administer. I think he said this quote because it was when dealing with politics, so it would be hard to know the truth when you never know if a person is telling the truth or is just saying things to get popularity to others and showing how better they are. I can relate this to my life because when growing up there are times you get into bad situations and they lead into lies, with that one lie you tell and get away with it and you end up keep lying. When one of my friends ask if I want to the mall or something, i would just lie if I really didn’t want to go. And by getting away with that lie I just deceived my friend. Which as the quote says, I have just started my own web, with that I web could get more tangled later on. And one close illustration that comes to mind is how ‘‘The one boy who cried wolf”. Which that little story showed how he would tell a lie about seeing a wolf, but then when he actually saw a wolf no one had believed him. Which this shows how the boy got tangled into the web he had weaved and nobody believed him. In all, I think that in real life people do make lies but when making that web more tangled with hurt you in the future.

One of his famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, and The lady from the lake. Also Scott was an advocate judge and legal administrator by profession. 7. Just starting something new is hard we get it and, in this quote we get a simile to what people do when they try and act fake or not like themselves to fit in. Surely we people do get our selves tangled in our web but not only do we do that our web starts to tangle with other webs and starts a problem. I agree with this quotes because, when a person is trying to fit in to something new , acting fake isn’t gonna help because you’ll have to be fake the whole time or come clean. Sir Walter Scott was a scottish historical novelist, poet and playwright. Some of this famous titles are Ivanhoe ,Rob Roy, The Lady of the Lake, The Heart of the Midlothian, and The Bride of Lammermoor. The message of this quote has a lot of meanings and different ways you can put it or explain it. It also, still takes place in the world now in this very day and any other day, hour, minute and second. Seen in most people this message, that don’t have the ability to have love for themselves, people who need a backup story and people who just looking for attention.

I think the meaning of this quote is that a web is what is woven by a spider, and its function is to trap flies with its stickiness; the more they wriggle to get away, the more they entangle themselves in it. 12. I think this quote is talking about the negative effects lying can have on people's lives. Once someone starts lying, they can’t really stop. All they’re thinking about is how to add on to the lie and what to make up next. Often times, people don’t understand the consequences before they begin constructing their lie. Therefore, it can potentially get them in lots of trouble. This happens a lot with not just one specific person, but multiple people. Sir Walter Scott was a historical novelist, playwright and poet. He probably said this one point in his life because he was a writer and he might of stretched the truth a bit. On numerous occasions, people stretch the truth because they’re trying to protect the other person, but in the end, it hurts them anyway. The sentiment of this quote still resonates today because lying is recurrently used for things like lack of courage, seeking attention or they just don’t know any other way to handle the situation.

  15. I think what this quote means is that when someone creates a lie about a situation, the lie becomes more and more complicated, making more problems than to start out with. I agree with this quote because the web represents the lies, as it grows, we get tangled up in the whole situation, rather than simply saying the truth. As one lie is said, we tend to build up on it. “Practice makes perfect,” this relates to this quote because we all start out with little lies, but as time goes on, we start to lie about the bigger things, that can eventually result in consequences that can affect our future. Sir Walter Scott was was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Besides being a writer, he was also an advocate, judge and legal administrator by profession. I think Scott said this quote because dealing with politics, people aren’t always going to be truthful. I think this still resonates today because people will lie about anything on social media just to get the attention they crave. Simply saying the truth won’t hurt as much as all the lies. Lying can hurt you and the people around you. It can break relationships with the people you love. On a side note, social media is the most popular place for teens to lie about anything or even everything, just to fit into the society. I get that some of us want to fit in, but I believe that being yourself is enough.

I think that this quote is talking about how people lie. When we lie, the situation gets worse. We get tangled up in all these problems, like a fly caught in a web. And we learn to lie to try to smooth things out, but the situation just gets worse. I think that's why he compares it to weaving a web.

Sir Walter Scott was the first English-language author to become international author. He started writing professionally at the age of 25. He was very popular for his poetry and novels. They're all still read today. He had many roles throughout his life. He was president for the Royal Society of Edinburgh for 12 years as well.

I agree with this quote. Everyone lies. We say we don't, but we do. And those lies turn into rumors, those rumors spread because there are so many people that can't keep their mouth shut. Not saying that I've never talked about anyone, I have. Although we say it's wrong, we're still going to do it. And we lie and it turns into a huge mess. I feel bad after I lie. Honestly, I can't lie. It's too obvious that I'm lying. But other people who can lie, cause these problems. These problems are the cause of bullying and all these other problems we have today.

  17. I feel that this quote makes sense. We're always getting tangled up in these problems because of lying. So many people lie to smooth things over or even deceive people. We try to lie to trick people so much that it turns into this huge situation. I think that that's one of the problems in our society today. Lying, turns into rumors. When people spread those rumors, people get hurt. It still resonates today because of how people are always trying to put others down by lying and spreading rumors.

  18. When I hear the word deceive, I think of someone who is constantly lying to get what they want. So what I think this quote means is as you’re lying, you’re creating a big mess. As you’re lying, you’re digging yourself into this big hole of lies. With each lie you tell sinks you deeper into that hole. This causes you to have a lot of made up stories and at one point, you’ll end up forgetting the truth. Sir Walter Scott was the first English-language author to have an international career in his lifetime. I feel that since he was the first author in his time, he must of told some lies to get himself there. I feel that this quote relates to the world. For example, when a daughter lies to her parents. She says one thing that leads to another. Before you know it, she is going to have a lot of lies stacked on herself. Then when her parents ask about the whole situation again, she’ll have so many lies she won’t know what she really said to start the mess.

  19. Sir Walter Scott was a writer born on August 15, 1771 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was a farmer and his mom was fond of poetry which gave inspiration to Scott.
I think that the quote means that we spend too much of our time lying. Our lies often end up getting us in trouble and it creates a lot of problems in friendships or any other kind of relationships. I think that when Sir Walter Scott says web he is talking about how all the lies can be related to each other and destroy relationships.
I’ve seen some people lose a lot of their friends when they tell lies or even lose everything that they have. We keep lying and eventually we lose track of all our lies and we just forget one thing we lied about and it’s over for us. People stop talking to you and you basically can’t do anything because nobody trusts you. Some very important figures can lose all the respect they have gained because they gained it from lying and they don’t get a second chance.
So I think that the quote talks about how sometimes we lie so much that we lose track of all our lies and we lose everything because of it. Bryan Gavilane- Period 5

  20. Journals: A Tangled Web
I think this that quote means we put ourselves in a sticky situation when we are being deceived or when we deceive others. All it does is cause problems, for the person being deceived and the person deceiving. For example, we humans tend to bend the truth very often, whether it is to prove someone wrong, to create drama, or even to change one’s opinion. One example of proving someone wrong is when people are arguing and they’ll do anything to bring their point across. Teenagers create unnecessary drama by spreading rumors. And an example of changing one’s opinion is when we lie to them in order to win champagne, or anything else to benefit ourselves.
Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. He loved the literacy of the Scottish Border since he was very young. He began to write professionally at the age of 25. He interpreted German literacy, and rhymed his ballads. He was also dealt with politics and was a legal administrator. In my opinion, Sir Walter Scott wrote this quote because he dealt with politics, and when dealing with politics the truth gets bent a lot, or you are only told the half-truth. Therefore, it can be difficult believing others and not causing any problems.

  21. This quote is really confusing to understand at first. What I got out of it is that when you lie to someone, the lies build up. In other words the little white lie turns into a big mess when you try to mislead someone. Sir Walter Scott was a novelist, playwright, and poet. During his life Walter Scott worked as a legal administrator so he would see how a person would suffer from building up a web of lies. I feel like many people can connect with this quote. I feel like almost everyone has been in a situation in which a little lie turned into something more. Something that was either intentional or unintentional. An example for this quote can be from a personal experience you or someone you know had.

I think this quote means that when we lie we have to make more lie to cover up that lie and eventually we are stuck in a web of lies. We make others believe our lies and we actually end up believing our lies. It would just make it harder for you because all you are doing is going around lying. I do agree with this quote because i feel like there are times when we don’t want to get in trouble, but we go and make a lie, and that causes another person to lie, or even causes you to make up a lie on top of that. It would just be a lot more work for you. I think that everyone does do this and it is one thing we struggle with. This quote still resonates today because we all do it. I think this quote basically means that if you plan to deceive and do wrong you already put yourself in a “tangled weave “ , meaning a hard mess to get out of . Once a person plans to do something they know is not right they have already started a whole line of problems. I think the “first practice to deceive ” part of this quote is important because once you start you won’t want to stop and that will just create an even worse mess. I agree with this quote because so many people my age get caught up in popularity, rumors, and just wanting to fit in that they create such a substandard situation that is hard to embed. But, no matter how much of a mess you get yourself into there is always a way to get out which starts with doing the right thing , whether that be to stick up for what you believe in, let the truth out , or even just apologizing. This quote completely connects with life because sadly there are many inferior people in this world that have a habit or some kind of commitment to deceiving , lying , and hoaxing therefore , they get themselves stuck in such inadequate situations.

  26. I believe this quote has to do with lying. The web is referred to all our lies, and the more we lie, the bigger our web gets. And the bigger the web gets the more likely we are to get caught in it. For example, when you lie you tell more lies so it would sound more believable, but then everyone finds out that it wasn't the truth and you end up in a bad situation. In the end, the truth will always be found so I think it's safe to say that we should all just begin with it.
Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical writer, playwright and poet. He wrote many books and poems. This quote is from his poem, "Marmion:Canto VI." Since Sir Walter Scott was very popular, I think he had to deal with many people, even some liars. I think this is why he stated this. I mean he had to say it for reason, right? Everyone has a meaning behind what they say. So I believe that liars had impacted his life.
This can resonate today because there are a lot of people that love to lie constantly. When they lie, it revolves around them. One lie leads to another and then it becomes hectic. For example, the drama at school. People say negative, unnecessary things that seem very unusual. This is because it is simply not the truth. Then the lie continues on and words can get twisted in this game of telephone. The lie that everyone now knows is our web. The web that we weaved from merely not telling the truth.

  27. I think this quote means that when someone lies then you try to make another lie to cover up the main lie. Then you're in a world full of lies. Yes, sometimes telling the truth may lead you to get in trouble but at least you will be a normal honest person who always tells the truth. I personally don't like people that don't give second chances to people that made a mistake and are being honest by telling the truth. People should understand that everyone makes mistakes and it is very hard to tell the truth and know at the same time that you'll get in trouble, I think it's a very brave thing to do. Moreover, Sir Walter Scott was born on August 15 1771 and passed away on the twenty first of September 1832. He was was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Scott was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime, with many contemporary readers in Europe, Australia, and North America. 28. I agree with this quote. It took a lot of searching but I found a good example that helped explain the quote. On this website it used the example of Obamacare. This information I received from this website said that it is very hard for lies to be written in a presidential speech, considering it goes through many people before it is finalized. Yet in his speech, President Obama stated that everyone would be able to keep their plan. This proved to be untrue and now many people are suffering from this "web" they've "weaved". The many people who reviewed the speech knew that this information was wrong and still decided to mislead people. Now many suffer and it is hard to undo some of the damage they've done.

Long story short: Don't lie. I know that's it's harder than it seems. But you and maybe even the people involved in the situation will be better off.

Sir Walter Scott was a European playwright, novelist, and poet. He could've most likely experienced this in his lifetime like the majority of people will. He might have also made up a scenario in one of his plays, books, or poems dealing with lies and deceit.

I think that it means that we make things so confusing we we try to deceive or appear to be something that were not, when we first start to try it. Sir Walter was a historical novelist and poet during the 1800’s. Personally i'm not good at lying i feel like after you make up too many lies you just make a huge web of them its hard to keep track of them and know what you said and you confuse other so I’d rather not do it. This still makes sense today because its better not to lie that way you don't’ get so confused its better to be honest and be yourself and try to be something that you aren’t. Rather than making up a web of lies to try to fit in with people or seem popular.

  30. If your were to start to lie, you would start to get the habit of lying and you start to do it more and more often. This can also be said about cheating. If you were to cheat, and you passed that specific test or quiz or whatever it was that you cheated on to pass, then it started to become a habit. You start to get yourself tangled in a web when you start to cheat or to lie. Lying or cheating can get you out of that situation, but if you start to lie more than one time, then you start to get your self tangled up because of how much you need that. Its like an addiction. When you do it your first time, its like your practice, just like what the quote says, and deceive, meaning to cheat or to lie. You probably convinced your teacher that you did something and you forgot it at home, when you really did not do it. Or when you tell your teacher than your computer or whatever that you use did not work. The quote can be rewritten and said as the web we create, when we practice to lie/cheat. These are examples of the quote above. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish poet, novelist, historian, and biographer. Most likely in everyones life, we have cheated, and/or have lied about something. If you said you have not, then you're lying because for a fact, everyone has done one of the two or both. For an example, I have lied. Even though i have regretted on lying, but you know what, it happens and life happens. When you lie or cheat for your first time, then you start to have a feeling of being guilty. Then later on you start to develop that habit of lying, and/or cheating. Many people care so much about that one assignment or anything that they would lie or cheat to get the grade they are wanting. It may not feel proper, but its your decision, and you never know if you will stop that habit of lying or cheating. My opinion still speaks for itself as of today. If you lie or cheat, that is just you start. It is like your base when you start to lie or cheat. When you keep on lying and cheating, then you're just building on and on. Its like stepping stones. Another example would be cheating on a quiz. Quizzes are not worth as much as tests, but if you decide to cheat, then its all to you to do the right thing. Whether you lie or cheat, its the best if you do not do it because it starts to be an addiction and it can get you.

I think Sir Walter was saying that if you keep telling lies, you’re gonna cover those with more lies and get tangled up in them to the point where you forget what lies you have told and sooner or later you’ll get caught in a web of lies. Scott was the first English- LAnguage Author to have an international career in the 17 to 1800’s. I agree with this quote because this has happened a lot and I have seen this happen, I have done this before. When people lie they don’t realize that they are making up more and more lies, and when they say too many lies they forget some of them and the person who they’re lying to notices it and they know when they are lying, so they get caught. It’s like in those movies when the guy cheats on the girl or when the girl cheats on the guy. They tell so many lies that make it sound like crap and they caught or they tell the same lie and get caught. This quote is still used today buy a lot of people. As our lives start it is simple, easy, straight, but as our lives progress we start to deceive others from the truth, as well as ourselves, and our lives become difficult, creating more strings to fit in the small area we have to work with. 38. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. This quote means that sometimes people lie in their lives, and the web signifies all the lies they have told. He used the word weaver to describe a person that lies. Then, he used the word tangled because people tend to lie a lot in their lives to not get caught or to cover up their previous lies, but they can no longer handle it because it will become tangled. So, it’s always better for us to start with a truth because if we lie then we will have to keep on lying many times more to not get caught up. The sentiment of the quote still resonate today in our modern world because people are too tired to argue over things that they know will lead them to troubles, so they force themselves to lie and not make the situation get worse and it will become more complicated. For example, you see someone cheating in your class, and the teacher has warned the class to report anyone that’s cheating, but no one did because they didn’t want that person get in trouble. If we know that once we life, we will have to deal with it and lie even more, and lies won't last forever because a person won't live his entire life covering his lies, so it's gonna show at the end no matter what. Therefore, when we know that once we lie we will have to keep lying, why are we doing it? It's always better for an individual to be honest and say the truth although he/she will have to face the consequences. A person can be forgiven when he says the truth, but once he lies no one will ever have truth in him.

  39. I think this quote means that in life when you practice deceitful things it tangles you up because it backfires in your face because of the many times you practiced it. Sir Walter Scott ( August 15, 1771- September 21, 1832) was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime. His novels and poetry are still read, and many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. I think that this can relate to our time today because when kids lie to their parents for the first time when they’re young and they get away with it, that child would think if they keep lying to their parents the same thing will happen to them every time. The more they practice to lie, the more they have to keep making up more lies to cover that one and the next, and then next thing you know that child is lying so much they start confusing their own self and they entangle every lie they ever told to the point they can’t even get out of it.

  41. I think that what he is saying is that if you keep telling lies and lies that's all you're going to be telling and you're going to be so tangled up in all of them and you won't really be trustworthy to anyone. I think he is right because eventually after lying so much you won't feel anything wrong with lying. He was a judge so I think that he has a lot of experience with this. In the courtroom he has to figure out if the people that he is judging is lying or not. Like when the criminals lie in the court and are telling everyone that they aren't doing it, later when there is clear evidence that they did do it they're going to get in even more trouble. I think that it could relate to me and many other a lot today because I pretty sure that all teenagers lie a lot. So, if we don't stop we will get tangled and get in trouble for all of the lies we tell. So I think it's like a web because all of the lies are connected together. Once we lie, we have to more to cover those lies, and we just keep going and going. Eventually we won't be able to get out of it and we get into even more trouble than at first.

  43. I think that this quote mean if a person keeps keeps telling lies they're just make it harder for themselves. Its all up to the person, it well led a person to keep on the wrong way because the lie will move on. For example, my friend lied about her grades to her parents and my friend had to lie every time about her grades and make things about just to not get in trouble. The more they practice to lie, the more they have to keep making up more lies to cover that one and the next, and then next thing you know that child is lying so much they start confusing their own self and they entangle every lie they ever told to the point they can’t even get out of it.

    1. I agree with your viewpoint of Sir Walter Scott quote , I also liked how you related it to you life as well. It would of been better if you wrote another example to support your viewpoint, other than that , this was a good journal.

    3. I disagree with you because if someone just lies then they're not making it harder for themselves, they're making it easier because they only tell lies which is anything they come up with instead of telling the truth that will most likely get them in trouble.

  44. Walter Scott was a scottish historical novelist , poet , and also a playwright. His famous titles include The Lady of the Lake, Waverly, and also Ivanhoe. He is authorized to write this quote because as a historical poet , he could write about anything and then people worldwide will follow. Walter Scott has gained more followers after he passed away because he had multiple millions of money in debt in Scotland, instead of declaring for bankrupt , he decide to give the title of everything he owns to other people , then take his life.

I think Sir Walter Scott is that if we lie once , we have to keep multiple lies on going in order to support the first lie. For example, let's say you're cheating on your spouse and he/she asks where you were last night. You then make up a lie to come up with an alibi. Later, you and your spouse are with some other people, and your spouse mentions to them that you went to this place and they say they were there too. Then they start asking you questions about how you liked where you said you were, but weren't. Now, you have to come up with more lies and it will drive you insane trying to keep all the stories straight when they never even happened.
This relates to my life because everyone says a white lie here and there , but then that white lie becomes bigger because we have to come up with more lies in order to support it. This relates this to the world because everyone always gets tangled in something but don’t know anyway how to deceive it , so then it just blows up right in front of us . Sir Walter Scott was on something when he decided to create this quote because he really knew what he was talking about.

    2. I agree with you, although I don't think someone has to be "on something" to speak the truth. The truth is there and it's our choice to decide if we want to speak it or not. :)

  45. I think the quote means that the more we lie, we have to lie even more to keep the lie from being found out. Because once you tell one lie you have to make up a story or the others will know you’re lying. Every time you lie to someone there is always a way for them to find out you are lying to them. So the best thing to do is not to lie. Although, sometimes you have to lie a little so you won’t hurt the people you loves’ feelings. And everyone lies in this world, it’s just that some people do it more often than others. Sir Walter Scott was born on 15 August 1771 and died on 21 September 1832. He was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Scott was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime, with many contemporary readers in Europe, Australia, and North America. The sentiment of the quote still resonate today, because people still lie to get out of awkward situations. I would know that because I've done the same thing before. For example, my sister lied to my parents about her grades and they were asking her questions and she started making up more lies to get herself out of that situation. But my parents talked to her teacher and they found out the truth. So everyone lies even though they know it’s wrong, but that’s just the way life is.

    2. i agree with you because the only way to continue on the lie so no one will get suspcious is to lie even more,so then you keep lying and it will continue on.But because a lie can be found out its best to just tell the truth. But we lie sometimes to not hurt the others around us.

I think this quote means that we cause a lot of problems and hurt or damage people physically/emotionally even though we knew that it was going to cause it. We sometimes do things that hurt people even though we know what the results are going to be. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. He was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime and his novels and poetry are still read, and many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish Literature. I know what this quote means because I have done it too. I once knew that if I took my brothers money, we was going to still get mad, but I still took it. Another example is when I turned off our game system when my cousin was using it though, even if I knew something was going to come out bad.

  47. I think it means that people do things without thinking at the consequences that could happen.
The tangled web would represent of how people would get caught up in their lives and ends with a horrible situation. An example is, when we don't do what our teacher or parent tall us to do, we are not making a good decision. Every person make mistakes and for all of them we have learn something new that can help us for the future.Sir Walter Scott. Studies of the work of scott defined as the founder of the historical novel, and praise their powers to recreate reality last Scotland and the Average Age with vigor and descriptive talent , based on dialogues and arguments fascinated by the quality of create expectation in the reader, on the other hand , showed an excellent nose to discern the political conflicts in his time and represent them in fiction . Master of dialogue and possessed of a vigorous and poetic style.

  48. This quote means a lie often requires other lies and those, still more lies until the whole structure of lies becomes so unwieldy it catches the liar. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Scott was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime. This quote still resonates today because no matter how perfect a person is they will lie.

  49. I think it’s talking about how people lie to each other to protect themselves or save them the trouble, but then we get caught up in these lies and it’s this crazy mess because we decided to lie instead of facing the truth. So we can’t keep track of these lies so how do we know when to lie or not,so its like a web tangled up and sticky like a situation.Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Scott was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime. His novels and poetry are still read, and many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. It resonate today, because of how much lies there are in bullying, company's products, and how we lie to each other.

  50. I think this quote means that whenever we lie it just becomes worst and worst. When we lie we try to get out of it by lying even more. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish poet, playwright and historical novelist. I will connect this by text to world and this goes with the world because a lot of people lie and then they keep on lying to try to make it better. This illustrates with today because people lie for everything and keep on doing it daily.

  51. I believe that it means the by tangled web we weave, It means that we make a problem, and then we try to fix it but we cant. I agree with this quote because people in the world always find a way to get others to start a problem with them, and that doesn't make sense to me because if we all as humans make a mistake but sometimes people get into problems for the stupidest things. Sir Walter Scott must have bean a poetic person, because this kind of language is very poetic. This sounds like the world because people always find a way to do something bad, and always invent something to hurt the world but they can always tangle themselves out of the problem.

  52. I agree with this quote. I think what Walter Scott is trying to say that in life we make mistakes, and in those mistakes we either learn from them or we continue to make those mistakes. When we make a problem for ourself we don't always know the outcome. I'm sure if everyone knew what life would be life is they knew what each door to them lead to, we wouldn't make as many mistakes because we wouldn't choose the ones with problems or tough situations. I think everyone once has created a problem for themselves and sometimes we knew the possible outcome but we did it anyways. I think sometimes when we do create ourselves a problem we tend to find it, and there isn't a problem with doing that, but can we necessarily fix every problem we create or comes in our path? I think this connect text to self because it's problems that we do ourselves, or cause to happen.

  53. It took me long enough to, sort of, understand this quote, and sincerely I hate forced writing, but anyways, I believe that Scott is talking about lies and how often when we lie, we try to cover up that lie with another lie, and then we create another lie to cover up the lie that is covering the other one, and so it goes on, and on, and on, and thus envolving us in a great series of lies, from which most of us will not be able to ever escape or get out of,

  54. I think this quote is saying that when people are in bad situations, and try to make it somewhat better by lying, cheating, or doing anything as bad as before, they end up making the situation worse. Lying, cheating, and doing anything else bad will only cause the situation to continue to grow. A web starts as a single strand, just like the first lie, and continues to grow on until the spider, or in this case, the person, feels like they need to stop, or get caught in the act of continuing to make up lies.
Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. He was the first English-language author to have a truly international career in his lifetime. Many of his readers were from Europe, Australia, and North America.
This quote still resonates today because even today people in bad situations think they can make it better by lying, cheating, and doing bad things even more than they already have, but end up making it worse.

  55. I believe that this quote means that when people are in difficult situations, they try to make it better by lying. But by lying they end up making the situation worse rather than better. They lie to the point that they start believing their own lies. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish poet, and novelist. This quote resonates today because everyone lies, small or big lies, they still lie. They think that the lies cover up or save us some problems when they actually make the problems even bigger. The truth always comes out no matter how hard we try to cover it.

  56. I think this quote means that as we deceive and keep on deceiving others we create and get stuck in a bad situation. For example, as we say one lie we keep on building up those lies and we keep making the situation worse than what it already is. So, the “tangled web” is the situation/problem, and the “web we weave” is us deceiving others. I agree because we start off with one small lie, and then we keep building up those lies, sometimes we know the outcome and sometimes we don’t, but we create these problems/situations. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Scott was the first English-language author to truly have an international career in his lifetime. He was also an advocate judge and legal administrator. This quote still resonates today because people still turn one small lie into a huge lie, and it creates a really bad situation, and we have to do the right thing to fix and get out of this situation.

  58. I think this quote has to do with when people try to accomplish something negative that they do not want others to find out about. I feel this quote has to do with when they end up getting caught up after they did this negative action. For example, if you steal from someone and then they end up seeing you with their belonging. That person would try to be fraudulent about the situation which is what I would consider the tangled web thats weaved. The stealing part would be what was practice to decieve. Fabrications would be another example of this quote. When you fabricate a situation, it only ends up in more and more false information. Therefore, I believe this quote has to do with being guileful and untrustworthy. This quote leads into Sir Walter Scott, one who made this quote.
Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright, and poet. Walter was one of ten children. Scott was married with several children. Scott was thevfirst English-language author to have a truly international career. He died. September 21, 1832. Scotts quotes, poetry, and novels are very well read in modern day.
This quote connects to modern day events because many people and businesses are very scandalist. People lie, fool, and mislead others in this generation. Many business do that today over money and fame. This happens in school, work, stores, anywhere really. Therefore, this is how I feel about it the quote.

  59. My response to this quote will state who Sir Walter Scott was, what I think quote means, and how I connect with it. In addition to that, my response will claim how the sentiment of the quote still resonates today, and also provide examples that illustrate the quote. Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish poet, novelist, and playwright who who was the first English language author to to have a truly international career in his lifetime. I believe that this quote means that people that live their life in lies and being dishonest it could result in a life (web) of betrayal, confusion, havoc. I can connect with this quote by understanding that lying is not an ideal choice in life, but it will always happen and always has. Plus that is also how the sentiment of the quote resonates today, because deceiving will forever be in the world, consequences may not always come, but continuing is weaving a tangled web. Lying could get you in jail and make you lose people you love. Misleading could direct right into another situation that could include lying again. Overall, I agree with this quote that states that us humans create our own difficulties and issues in life by practicing the art of lying.

  60. I think “O what a tangled web we weave” means our everyday life choices we make in a regular basis, everything, anything, or anyone we decide to do or bring, we are wrapping them into our lifes and create connections with them. And on the second part, where it states “When we first practice to deceive” can mean the consequences that come with our choices, if we decide to hang out with drug dealers, and are with them on shootings or are seen with them, we become the target to “hurt” them. And all the while we don’t want to stop doing what were doing we just want to find a way to avoid the unavoidable. They don’t necessarily need to be bad choices, for example Sir Walter Scott made his life and decided to be a novelist and keep on with his education and live up to his quote, because at the end of the day not only are you weaving your hair but you're also effecting people around you.
